SPINACH – ORANGE – GINGER JUICE: In a blender add a handful of clean spinach, ~3/4 c fresh squeezed orange juice, and grate in a small knob of ginger. Add 1 – 2 tbsp water. Blend well and enjoy!
BEET – STRAWBERRY – BANANA SMOOTHIE WITH CASHEW BUTTER SWIRL: In a blender add 1 medium sized boiled beet (skin removed), 1 ripe banana, 5 – 6 strawberries, ~1/2 c nut milk (I used unsweetened almond milk). Blend. If you like it sweeter you can add a little honey, dates, more strawberries, etc. In a cup or glass, take a generous tbsp of nut butter on the back of a spoon and spread the nut butter against the sides of the glass to create the ‘swirl’. Pour in the smoothie and enjoy!
CHAI & CHOCOLATE PROTEIN SHAKE: Sometimes I have protein powders but I don’t like to have them too often or rely on them. I enjoy Garden of Life products when I’m in the US (or Pulsin when abroad). For this shake I brewed 1/2 c strong chai tea, 1/2 c almond milk, and added a packet of Garden of Life’s ‘Raw Organic Protein Powder – Chocolate’. I usually mix this gently by hand with a spoon but you could use the blender. Some dates or cinnamon for extra sweetness would be nice too.
MORNING ‘CHAMOMILE SOUR’: A twist on the classic whiskey cocktail…I don’t have mixology equipment so I shook the liquids in a clean jar with a tight lid and then poured over ice. Brew 1 c strong chamomile tea in a jar with ~ 2 tsp honey depending on your sweetness preference. Make sure you have extra room in the jar for the other ingredients. Once brewed, add one or two ice cubes and/or place in the refrigerator or freezer to cool. Once fully cooled, add 1 tsp turmeric and 1 egg white. Shake vigorously to start to emulsify the egg white. To the jar add another few ice cubes to chill the drink and shake a little more continue emulsifying. When the drink is starting to get a little foamy, pour the mixture over a glass filled with ice and enjoy.
